Call for Art: MARNmembers Exhibition – “The further we reach, the closer we see”

MARN is pleased to announce a Call for Art for “The further we reach, the closer we see”, a MARNmembers Exhibition running November 19 to January 8, 2023.

Applicants must be MARN CREATIVE STUDENT, CREATIVE or CREATIVE BUSINESS Members in good standing before the call closes to qualify. An extension of MARN’s Annual MARNmembers Exhibition, this exhibition strives to serve as a platform to showcase the thriving studio practices of MARN’s visual art members residing in Southeast Wisconsin.

“The further we reach, the closer we see” speaks to a notion that has existed since the dawn of documented human experiences: the urge to have a greater understanding of our surroundings through indexing the past, present, and future.

From geological sites, the study of the cosmos, to some of the earliest forms of “art” being the petroglyphs, humans have documented our experiences in many forms and mediums throughout history, with the tools and systems advancing as time progresses and culture expands.  As we strive to better understand what we call “life”, we are often asked to reach beyond what is in the forefront of our “view” and instead be cognizant of what was, while considering what is to come.

MARN seeks members to submit up to 5 works completed within the last two years for consideration. Themes may include but are not limited to: index, documentation, fine details, micro and macro, history, interpretations, observation, past/present/future, greater picture, nearsighted-farsighted, reflection/revisit, curiosity, and the study of life. Submissions should consist of work that is ready to hang and/or install within a week of the selection notification.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Sunday, October 30, 2022 at 11:59PM CDT

SELECTED ARTISTS NOTIFIED by end of day November 2, 2022

This is a juried exhibition open to all MARN CREATIVE STUDENT, CREATIVE and CREATIVE BUSINESS members. Submissions will be reviewed by MARN’s Gallery Director and MARN’s Curatorial Advisory Committee member Elio Garcia. Selections will be based on the quality of the work, the professionalism of the application, the relevance of the content, and alignment with MARN’s mission, vision, and values. Applications that do not follow the specified guidelines for eligibility, formatting, and content will not be considered. However, submissions which challenge traditional interpretation of the call for art are welcome if their content is strong.
