OPEN CALL COMING SOON!

MARNmentorship is a competitive one-year mentorship program offering emerging and transitioning artists the opportunity to partner with local established artists to further their artistic practice while engaging in building a career as a working artist.

The goal of the MARNmentorship program is to develop a comprehensive mentoring program that leads to the development and growth of mentees in Milwaukee and the expansion of the arts community. This program is open to Milwaukee-based artists from a wide range of experiences/expertise with a focus on developing a diverse cohort of Milwaukee artists.

This program is open to artists and arts professionals from any creative background including, but not limited to the following: Interdisciplinary, mixed media, painting, printmaking, photography, film/video, fiber arts, performance, installation, drawing, sound, music, art & tech, writing (critical/theory, creative, and poetry), ceramics, movement/dance, comedy, curatorial practices, culinary arts and more!

The 2023-2024 MARNmentorship Catalog features work from both Mentees and Mentors along with special interviews and insights into the Mentorship Program.

Catalogs are $30.

In mentoring, there is an exchange developed through trust over time.

The Mentor digs into their years of knowledge, experience, edifying mistakes, and networks to share and create a space for potential. In this space, the Mentee is safe to question, be vulnerable and open, take risks through materials and ideas, and ultimately learn to develop a rich practice with a sounding board they can return to, lean on, and grow from. This is not a singular exchange, rather there is a reciprocal relationship that enriches both Mentor and Mentee in this joint passion and pursuit through making.

A Mentee is…

An emerging artist who wants to grow, develop, and experiment while having guidance and a consistent advisor. In this mentorship, the mentee is safe to question, be vulnerable and open, take risks through materials and ideas, and ultimately learn to develop a rich practice with a sounding board they can return to, lean on, and grow from. Mentee candidates must show promise and dedication to their creative work as a career and should be at a moment in their career in which access to a Mentor and a supportive environment will be meaningful to their practice and arts career.

A Mentor is…

An established, working artist committed both to their practice and the Milwaukee art community. The mentor digs into their years of knowledge, experience, edifying mistakes, and networks to share and create a space of potential for the mentee.
