“Practice in Progress” Talkback, feat. Bryon Cherry
Somewhere in our shared universe, the mysteries of the cosmos and the mundane details of our everyday lives meet. At that meeting point is Bryon Cherry.
A rock and soul musician, poet, and mentor in the MARNmentorship program, Cherry traces his influences to a variety of sources including Albert Camus, John Lennon, Frank O’Hara, and Buddhist kōans.
Cherry’s unique voice will headline a Mentee Talkback featuring Meg Strobel, Abigail Engstrand, Tracy Nickolaus, Meghan McGrath, and Laura Boban. Each artist will talk briefly about their work in the
“Practice in Progress” exhibition, currently available for viewing until June 4.
The Mentee Talkback takes place from 3-5pm on Saturday, April 29 at the MARN ART + CULTURE HUB, located at 191 N. Broadway. Cherry’s poetry and music performance will begin around 4:30pm after the artist discussion.

“Practice in Progress”, is an exhibition celebrating the 32 artists of the 2022-2023 MARNmentorship Program. In its 17th year of the program, 16 mentors and 16 mentees display artworks in a variety of mediums, including sculpture, movement, printmaking, fiber, painting, video, installation, and photo.
At the program’s core belief – potential is not fixed; it can be expanded and developed over time through learning, experimentation, and taking calculated risks. The MARNmentorship program is centered around being in process, ideas taking shape/form, and how an idea comes to be and is then fostered and nurtured and into the development of a lifelong practice.
